If I took a look (which usually I do actually) at the runways or the street style I couldn’t really say where is fashion headed right now. It seems a bit chaotic, but in a good sense, if that makes any of it at all. 90s is raging for sure with all its leopard/logo/floral/plaid print and mismatching colour galore.
Raf Simons is on the bandwagon, his situation is only special because he as a European designer became the head of a very American fashion house, so in his recent visions, the first global trend is mingling with the culture of the US, which gives it a uniquely contemporary edge.
This time he reached for American film milestones, such as Steven Spielberg’s Jaws and Mike Nichols’s The Graduate as he recalls them as “very important movies in my memory.” Explaining his choices, he said, “Disasters happen but they turn again into beauty, and beauty is around us and it can oftentimes turn into disaster.”
Ahhm…ok. I guess, he’s speaking about the ever changing life and how happiness couldn’t be without the sorrow and vice versa, which is deep indeed. Not the first thing that comes to my mind about Jaws, but whatever. Cult films and nostalgia are good and I’m pretty sure the fashion crowd will love these references too.
