Do you know that strange feeling when you visit a place where you used to be a lot as a kid, and suddenly realise it’s much smaller then you remembered? Everything is the same, yet, somehow very different, even if you know that nothing has changed. It’s a common human thing, I guess, because no matter where are you from, it just happens.
Now this theory/fact(?) has been proved once again, because something very similar happened to Pierpaolo Piccioli, when he realised an beautiful Valentino dress in an old photo he had as a kid didn’t feel the same many years later in person. It wasn’t disappointment, I think, it was – as the school we used to go – familiar, yet strange.
“You project your own emotion into a picture; what you want to see. So I wanted to catch that dream. And so, this collection is made with all the dreams of couture, all the craft and colours. It’s all about couture in the way I was wondering about couture. Couture is the ultimate limited edition: what everyone is looking for. Emotions and dreams and something special and unique. I think the future of couture arises in its past,”- explained the designer, and isn’t that cool not on one, but so many level? I think it is.
Even if this collection doesn’t feel utterly Valentino, there is nothing more wonderful than peeking into a small creative child’s vivid dream about a collection he adored. Or that’s only, very lost but also very romantic side of mine?
