I had to think a bit until I figured it out whether I want to write about this collection or not. I’m still not sure to be honest, but the buzz is big, as usual, I do like Gvasalia’s work, especially for Balenciaga these days, and the whole collection has started grown on me already, so why not then.
This show was all about Demna’s very own take on the fashion house, at least he said it is, not that I felt that different in the previous seasons. I’ll admit though, it is more Vetements than Balenciaga, even more so because there is no more Vetements show, so I see what he meant when said this, “it is the first season I wanted to underline the Demna story. I could feel the restraint of paying homage and going back to the archives every season.” But he’s pretty famous/hyped now to do that, so yeah, why would he?
No inspiration from the archives, but a Demna story, which – apparently – means 90’s screensaver legging/sock, lots of other prints like money, newspaper or the fancy trousers with clashing plaid/houndstooth/pinstripe prints, plus not so fancy cargo denims with some peplum and platform Crocs, cos why not, after all, they’re very street casual weird shoes, all the things everybody associate his world with.
I have a feeling that newspaper and money print will be big the next season, or this one already. Do you remember this Acne blazer from a few years ago? That was a hit as well, and I still remember it, so this is out of the question. Plus, it’s probably a newer flick from Demna and who does not like a good flick, right?
