It seems Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the designer duo behind Rodarte had a very familiar idea to Proenza Schouler in mind; leaving behind the old(-new?) conception of having 4 runway shows in a short year craze to this rebellious one, having their S/S RTW collection on the Couture calendar in Paris before everyone else.
I said yesterday, if there was one designer brand from New York to switch things up like this, that was Proenza Shouler, but being totally frank, this very Rodarte show was even better. A spectacular orgy if you like. Not only the runway was a beautiful secret garden in the middle of Paris, but the models were also decorated with amazing flower wraths, stoles and bracelets.
And then I haven’t mentioned the clothes yet, dresses mainly with everything you can describe as feminine. Floral prints, polka dots, sheer and lace fabrics, ruffles and fairy like embroidery, the whole gang was here, but it’s wasn’t a bit overwhelming or sickeningly sweet. On the contrary, the dark accessories and simple colours balanced all that out, leaving this oh I want even more feeling with us. A collection, which is worth being both at Paris and on Couture Week.
I seriously wanna see more runways like this! Do you?
