As soon as I watched Johnny Johansson’s collection I had a feeling something has happened. Something good I mean. Acne made a huge step in the right direction. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Swedish brand, but lately I haven’t bought what they offered. I didn’t even bother to write about the latest spring collection, and I didn’t like that much the previous F/W show either.
Johansson is a creative guy, but he’s struggled where he wants to go with the brand. Until now, because finally he found what he was looking for. A new, leaner, more grown-up and feminine direction with the usual amazing leather work. There is lot of airy asymmetric dress here in the nicest colours, most of them from the neutral side, moreover, we have a little experiment with yellow crochet and corduroy too.
Every look came with more layers, jumpers underneath leather coats and over long shirts, cardis/blazers/vests over dresses, or dresses over pants or thin turtlenecks. It shouldn’t be surprising given it’s a fall collection, but I’ve seen so many things, sometimes it’s worth to mention. The lace-y boots are amazing, just like the leather handbags with knotted details or the oversized earrings, and suddenly I’ve got in the mood to love Acne again.
What do you think about this new direction?
