I love what Johnny Coca does at Mulberry. This is only the third season for the designer, but he’s one of my favourites already. Especially because I don’t think I could wear these clothes, but they are so freaking inspirational. Every. Single. One of them.
When Coca was asked about the collection, he replied: “It was an intense moment with so many references from UK history and heritage. I was trying to cook everything together and make an explosion.” And what a great explosion it is.
Of course all of this makes more sense when you know, the brilliant stylist behind this collection is Lotta Volkova, super girl from the side of Demna Gvasalia. Her style is undeniable despite the obvious like Coca is not Gvasalia, and the sophisticated British heritage falls far from the excitingly raw style of Eastern European socialism.
But it works really nicely, with all the plaids, tweeds, silks and crochets mixed with fresh sharp tailoring, complementary colours, tall boots and sturdy boxy leather bags. It’s a match made in heaven.
I’d like to have that whole outfit on the featured image, please. Ok, and the last one, but that’s all. Thanks!
Oh, cannot wait to see these pieces on the streets!
