When it comes to buying clothes or getting dressed, I don’t struggle to much. I know what I love and feel good in. Ok, the only exception is the what to wear on the top question, but since I solved this issue pretty successfully this season, I gonna consider this as an improvement.
However, and this is not crucial but important, I still struggle when I have to decide what to wear to a party. I love casual, feeling comfy and confident, but still, we call this time of the year as party season for a reason. I’m well aware that one of these things doesn’t exclude the other, that’s not the case. It’s more like the dirty finances and ever growing wardrobe problem, mixed with a slight mental issue probably.
Because here is the thing, actually I have more idea in the topic, I’m just not sure which I want to go with, plus how much I want to invest in. I mean, I love quality, but giving a fortune for something you can wear twice a year, seams a bit exaggerating and it’s almost like pulling a tooth out. On the other hand, if I end up buying some cheap something, I know it’ll land in the bin/charity sooner or later, which again, I would like to avoid.
So I’ve just started thinking yet again, playing for time, and getting in this loophole again, hesitating back and forth, which I hate honestly, so for being a bit more productive than that, I rather gathered my main inspirations in one place. Maybe something will change, or not, but at least I feel this move useful, while maybe you get some ideas too.
So the main idea is the following; I need a more festive statement piece, while keeping the rest comfortable, simple and true to myself. I’m thinking about the following statement pieces, probably I’ll go with the one which I find nice with an acceptable, rather cheaper, but not the cheapest price tag.
- Something velvet: after all velvet is the fabric of the season, so either a black camisole or blazer which I’d pair with one of my beloved jeans and fancy shoes.
- Something vinyl or leather: either a mini skirt (this Mango number was so nice, but I couldn’t find it in my size) or a pair of trousers, and keep the top simple. This is a bit tricky because vinyl are not necessary comfortable or cheap or in worst case neither of them.
- Something boudoir: a velvet or silk-ish cami, crop top/bra or slip dress over a tee and jeans or the before mentioned leather/vinyl pants. These pieces are comfy, but still scream for party, don’t they?
- Something metal/glittery/sequined: actually this idea comes from the past year, when I had similar things to think about (but ended up wearing leather pants and a black blazer btw). A flashy metal or sequin top may be a bit too much, but when to wear these things if not in the flashiest period of the year, plus they could be perfectly fine with the most simple, casual, even sporty things, like destroyed jeans and/or sneakers.
At this point I think I’ll go with either a camisole or a velvet blazer, that mustardy velvet on Lucy Williams is gorgeous, however a bit pricey.
What do you think? Which one would you go with or what will you wear?
