If you’ve been following me for a while, you know, I’m not unfamiliar with Beyond Retro. I ordered from them multiple times, and I can say they have things which might be worth to check in person.
I’d had my eyes on a few things for a while, but when I found a funny monster and a Ralph Lauren tee for my husband (and because they offer free delivery over £50 and free return in the UK), I thought I pulled the trigger. I had nothing to loose, you know, so why not.
So as I’m still like a crazy girl, who has been bitten by the Vetements bug, I ordered things which might come from the overpriced fashion collective as well, but with the fraction of the price of course. Maroon leather coat, purple midi dress from probably the 80s and a pair of washed black vintage Levi’s 501, because I don’t have washed black vintage Levi’s. For my (and your :)) luck my hubby just arrived with my package so he was kind enough to make some pictures for me (and you :)).
So this is the purple dress with turtleneck, cinched waist and shoulder pads! I don’t know about you, but I do love not too big shoulder pads, even though I don’t have narrow shoulders. And actually this dress had the right amount of them. I was thinking about it a bit, planned to wear like you see on these pictures with slim jeans and glitter boots or with black tights, boots and belt on the waist, but I didn’t keep it eventually. I didn’t like the (thin and bobbly) fabric, which reminded me again why I didn’t like the 80s so much, duh. It was around £30 btw. 0 out of 1.
In the second round I wore the Levi’s jeans with the leather coat. Let me speak about the jeans first, it will be shorter. I didn’t like them, not sure why, probably because I prefer blue jeans recently, and I was able to buy my first Re/Dones anyway (which I love unconditionally). Btw these ones cost £30, so it’s not that bad if you want a vintage pair in good condition with the original hem. 0 out of 2.
Then the coat. To be frank, I was hesitating about them for a while. First of all it cost £55 which was a nice price for a full (longer!) leather number, as retails like Mango and Zara want to charge around 120-150 for a jacket. Secondly, the fit was right, and thirdly, I adored the big collars and the maroon color was just perfect. But on the other hand there were some contras too, such as the total amiss of buttons (it was designed like this actually, but the leather was so stiff they would’ve been useful), the moaning, stiff leather and the lame DIY, adjusting the hem to the otherwise intact lining with some longer piece of black tape. I mean, what the f*ck? It was the ultimate deal breaker. 0 out of 3.
I had to send back everything, and I think I’ll pause the shoppings from Beyond Retro for a while. Don’t get me wrong, you may still find nice deals there, but you always, I mean ALWAYS have to make it sure (try it and double check from every angle) you got something good for your money. If don’t, don’t be shy to return. This is the lesson for today, and I hope you enjoyed this post anyway.
PS: If you’re interested, these are the tees I ordered for hubby, and they were good of course. 😛 I still love this monsta, haha.
