Winter is coming. Seriously, I cannot feel it right now though, as London is boiling, but still. Next week the calendar will show us September, so we have to start preparing. Slowly fall is crawling in my mind too (I’m obsessed over the earthy colors of fall, and I have my eyes on my next ankle boots purchase too!), I think it’s inevitable anyway, but this year it took more time than ever before. I don’t mind it though, at least I don’t have to wait so long to wear anything meant to be for fall or winter. 🙂
As I was following the latest fall/winter fashion shows, I already made a not so small summary back then, but I think it’s still worthy to check those runway photos again (before spring/summer will come, which – OMG – is upon us as well).
1, Trends of COLD:
Typical fall/winter stuff, which we don’t wear in spring and summer usually. You know, because the cold is coming.
Layering: I guess, it doesn’t need too much explanation; coats, dresses over pants, tees or even knits. Socks under sandals and belts over everything.
Checks and tartans: you know like florals for spring… groundbreaking… 🙂
Velvet: everybody seems obsessed with velvet already, it – probably – has something to do with maximalism as well.
Sherling, leather, faux fur: you know, the cold.
Quilts: again, cold and athleisure. At least it’s practical, isn’t it?
Chunky knitwear: Does this need any explanation? 🙂
Colors of autumn aka earthy tones: I got this covered already and I’m definitely on this bandwagon.
And the colors of winter aka gem colors: I would love this too, but these are not for me, or maybe in a form of some kind of accessories? Yeah, a burgundy bag perhaps. 🙂
2, Trends of the current ERA:
These are the trends we have for a while, and it seems they’re going nowhere in the near future, but they’re not classics yet. Does it make sense to you? Ok, let me put this way: everything maximalist and everything retro, especially from the 80s and 90s.
Maximalism: feast for the eyes and soul, since Alessandro Michelle has showed up, he made everything Gucci over the top, but still yummy and covetable. Clash of prints, colors, luxurious fabrics, layers over layers over layers, plus sequins, embroidery, metals you name it.
(Vintage) blue denim everything: ok, denim is classic, everybody knows that, but everything from the 90s is major trend right know, so it doesn’t matter you prefer more classic or trendy deconstructed everything from this indigo colored fabric, all of them is extra super mega on! Love it!
Platform boots: Sprice Girls, somebody? Ok, it can be more raw or gothic, it’s trendy either way.
Athleisure: hoodies, leggings, bomber jackets, puffa jackets, socks and sock boots, everything sporty is cool. I’m still wondering how long will it last, because lets face it, these are classics as well. Maybe not street style classics, but hands up, who has never ever worn a hoodie/sneakers/tracksuit on the street. Somebody? Anybody?
3, Trends above all:
These are the trends, which are above time, because they can be called anytime, and nobody can say they can’t be pulled off, because they’re kinda classics. It’s a bit like the trends of COLD, but these are not connected to any temperature.
Accentuated shoulders: ok, maybe not shoulder pads at the moment, but they’re fine so as puffa shoulders. But the hottest are cold shoulders (is this confusing enough? :)) and off the shoulders. Because when was it untrendy to show off you shoulders?
Cinched waist: belts, belts, belts, plus corsets and bustiers. Again when was feminine untrendy?
Wider legs: from straight to extra wide, everything can come. And slim fit is the new skinny. (Seriously, at some brands there’s no difference at all. If you call it differently, would it be more trendy? It seems so.)
Ballet inspired: pink, ballet shoes, tulles, leotards, bodysuits. The girly girl trend. It’s overexposured, so it’s trendy. Not that I’d have any problem with ballet, on the contrary.
Military inspired: khaki, navy, red accents, metal buttons, double breasted, slim, long coats, combat boots. The boyish girls trend :). Again, you can pull it off at any place, at any time.
Boxy shoulder bags: with shorter strap and some metalwork at the moment.
At this point I think you know which are my favorites, as I’m obsessed with vintage and reworked denims, every earthy colors and I already have a pair of ballet flats, some hoodies, and a nice and small boxy bag with a pretty big metal closure in tan. What I would like to have is a big puffa jacket for winter and something like that Prada corset/belt combo. And probably some knits, because you know, you can’t have enough. What I haven’t decided yet about, that’s the platform boots trend, but they’re sure worthy to try, aren’t they?
Which is/are you favorite(s)?
