I’m gonna be honest; I never was a Couture type of girl, but you might already guess it. It wasn’t because I didn’t like the work or appreciate the patience and vocation, I really did. But well, I don’t wear Couture pieces (aka – what was in my mind – crazy big, weird, fussy pieces and girly princess gowns with every Swarovski crystals, pearls and stones what the world’s ever seen), so why should I go crazy about it?
But something’s changed. This time, as a I was checking the first Couture pieces, I’ve started feeling something similar, when I feel while I’m browsing Gucci‘s, Vetements‘s or any other designer’s runway collection. Still not the same though, but something similar. Because what’s nice, that’s nice, and credit where is due and etc, I think you got the idea.
All that being said, I won’t do every Couture reviews as I don’t write about every RTW collection either. I think, I still won’t be authentic enough to write about those things which are way to girly, fussy or anything just because it’s labelled as Couture. What would be the point then? However, I’ll keep an eye on them, and if I see something good or eye catching I won’t ignore it. I just can’t ignore it anymore.
And guess what? It happened. Like a lighting strike! Bang! I found something which I can adore from the bottom of my heart. I remember, I felt something similar back then when Lee McQueen sent his creations down on the runway. He was a genius indeed, not that Sarah Burton wouldn’t be a talented woman, but she’s not the same. It’ll never be the same again. 🙁
Anyway, we can be happy because we have plenty of talented designers among us. Like Iris van Herpen for example. This collection is a great example that you don’t have to create 60-90 looks, when just a few of them are so beautiful, so interesting and so beautifully composed. And it doesn’t have to be cheesy princess like or that physically big either. A bit weird yes, but artfully weird. Some inspiration from nature, playing with fabrics and good skills. That’s it. But I let the photos speak for themselves. 🙂 Enjoy!
