My struggles always come when I try to pick up or buy tops. Although, I’m good at the bottom area, as nothing is easier than buying and wearing jeans or shoes, I suck when it comes to tops. Probably because I have certain picture in mind which is accompanied by the expectation of good quality and affordable price.
Years ago my go-to shop was Zara, hands down. I always knew, that I could find something nice there. I still could actually, but the quality expectations are vanished at a certain point, mainly when I was working there (yes, that’s another story for an other day :)). And now, I get completely stuck. Ok, vintage tees are nice, but you can’t wear tees all the time, can you? And there are some goodies in Mango too, but that’s finite too.
And what’s left? I mean in the affordable category? TopShop is better at the bottom offerings, especially at shoes, GAP and Uniqlo is better for basics and the smaller sisters of Zara (like Bershka and Stradivarius) and the rest of the retails (like Forever 21, River Island, ASOS and New Look) have the same quality issues most of the time, or lets say I’m not part of the main target audience.
I tried, and tried and tried again, but still nothing (except for that one Mango blouse). But as a fashion content eater as I am, I run into Pixie Market and Style Mafia. Which have the best statement blouses what I’ve ever seen. Which actually makes me wondering; come on, European market, what’s wrong with you?
Ok, I cannot ascertain the quality online, after all Zara’s everything look so nice on the site, but the composition (mostly 100% cotton) and the higher price gives me the conjecture, that they couldn’t be that bad. And I swear, I would be willing to pay the higher price, if that thing were good. Awesomely, insanely good.
But here is the twist. They’re based in the US, which – in the case of Pixie Market – means free international shipping above $250! or $20 flat rate shipping for any purchase below $250. I don’t know what’s about Style Mafia, but I haven’t mentioned taxes and duty fees yet which of course applies at both. Moreover, now after this Brexit situation, it’s probably not the best idea to order something from the US. Especially because I’ve never seen these things in person. What if I had to return something? And here we are, getting stuck again.
Anyways, if you’re lucky to live in the US or planning to travel there, I’d recommend to check their things out. They look really really lovely on the pictures.
These tops are especially great with vintage or vintage like jeans. J’adore every one of them. And there’re still a big bunch of good stuff on the site. Ahhhh… 🙁
What do you think? Do you have a bulletproof tip here in the UK?
