After Karl Lagerfeld had presented his Chanel Cruise show in Havana few weeks ago, Nicolas Ghesquiere showed his latest collection for Louis Vuitton in Rio de Janeiro. But you can guess this, you just have to take a look at the pieces which contain a lot of sport elements like football/soccer prints, scuba suit (like) materials, vivid colors and lot of cut outs.
Ghesquière said about the show that “It is tropical and urban at the same time. I had to pay tribute to the country we are in, but also bring some of Paris with me.” And he did indeed. He also gave this collection his own unique touch with the interesting cuts and lot of sporty and edgy details, but I also feel a little bit of Vetements if I look at the floral printed black dress or the uneven hemlines of the pants.
It’s a nice collection but I feel nothing special. I quite like the jumpsuits and the scuba dresses but my hart didn’t skip a beat, but I don’t hate it either (maybe just that ugly thong sandal which must be extra comfy :)). What I rather feel that this collection is the part of a good working marketing machine with all of the sporty references which may be sold well due the Summer Olympics. But Rio is beautiful nonetheless.
What do you think? Do you like this show?
