Cannes is one of my favorite events of the year as I love the whole French Mediterranean vibe and the go big or go home attitude around this festival. As always, we could see beautiful clothes on beautiful women and I selected my favorites for you.
The Yellow Daze
Yellow was THE color of the festival this year and we can see easily why. It’s fresh, the different shades of it suit anyone and it’s one of the best highlighting color of them all (along with red of course :)).
Amal Clooney chose this wonderful Atelier Versace gown with classic, glamorous fit in pale yellow which is absolutely beautiful against her skin color. Probably I’d have chosen a different lip color but she was really pretty anyway.
Anna Kendrick represented herself in another, darker canary yellow dress, which was made by Stella McCartney. I think it’s tricky with fair skin and rather dark brown hair to pull off anything but she has such a grace around her that it’s really doesn’t matter.
Blake Lively is literally shining. Of course it’s not just because of this beautiful ballet inspired Valentino dress, but that adds to her shine as well. And what a shine. I love this darker shade of yellow which the velvet fabric makes even better.
Jessica Chastain is the living proof that redheads can pull off almost anything. Although I think green colors are the best with red hair, this canary yellow Armani Prive gown doesn’t disappoint at all, more like the opposite, as it hugs her all the right places.
Hotties in Red
As I said above beside yellow, another ultimate attention seeking/show stopping color is red. Just look at these ladies in the perfect vivid cherry red colors.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley brought her usual stunning form with this amazing Alexandre Vauthier ruffled red gown. The icing on the cake is that gorgeous matching red lip color.
One of the belles of the whole festival was Blake Lively. Hands down. However this outfit is not a gown she looks absolutely stunning again, in this seems like Chanel striped mini dress and red coat with blue, white and red floral applique.
Light Pastel Hues
Beside yellow and red, pastel pinkish color was also a big hit on the red carpet this time, most of the time with delicate floral, ruffle and tulle details which made these dresses even dreamier.
Elle Fanning wore a gorgeous dusty pink princess gown by Zuhaid Murad with beautiful floral embroidery. This hue a total hit against her summery complexion and the built in corset makes a tiny waist for her. She looked stunning.
Salma Hayek‘s choices can be hits or misses but this one is definitely a hit. She looks better than ever in this pink dress which seems like is made by Gucci. As a petite woman with womanly curves, she is, it’s not the easiest to find the perfectly fitted dress but this one is impeccable. However, I think her make up, especially around her eyes are a bit over the top.
Kristen Dunst chose another dreamy dress by Gucci with big poppies all over it. Who said red and pink don’t go together?
Lara Stone wore a beautiful Prada dress which is lets face it, usually not that easy. Actually I think so far only Lea Seydoux and Lupita Nyongo was successful to make tricky Prada gowns working. Anyway, this dress is nice and stylish at the same time. I quite like that long contrasting black tie too.
I have this feeling that Blake Lively would be beautiful in a bin bag too with this above mentioned shine and of course because of her womanly curves, but I don’t wan’t to take away the beauty of this Atelier Versace dress, so lets say just gorgeous Blake Lively in pretty Atelier Versace.
Sonia Benamar picked out this stunning slip dress with delicate embroidery. Actually I don’t know who is her and it wasn’t easy to find this pic either so I don’t know who made her really stylish dress but I know that I love it and that lip color too.
If you predict there will be a lot of romantic or sexy dresses on the red carpet, you can easily shine out with a more minimalist look. However, other stars tried more simple looks too, my absolute favorites were VB and Eva Herzigova.
What else could Victoria Beckham wore that her very own design. And why not, if it’s her who can pull it off the best? I love this simple but elegant black jumpsuit with the sharply cut waist and contrasting piping, although I wish the length would’ve been one inch or two shorter. If you have your fashion house that’s not a biggy, is it?
Eva Herzigova took out her best impression of Marilyn Monroe in this white Dior dress and she looked absolutely amazing, however, I think a pair of silver or even white heels would have worked better. Never mind, she looked lovely nonetheless.
Best dressed of mine?
I was thinking a lot if I had to choose who would be my favorite but it’s a really though question. My most favorite dresses are the yellow velvet by Valentino, and the two dusty pink colored by Zuhaid Murad and Gucci. Going further as I don’t like Salma Hayek’s make entirely and I think it’s a bit easier to pull a princess gown off, I’d go with Blake Lively in Valentino. But then she is expecting so that’s not fair either I guess. 🙂 It’s really really close as they all looked just beautiful.
Who is your favorite?
PS: It’s maybe hard to believe but it was quite difficult the brands of the dresses. Now I had to realize again, how much I miss Red Carpet Fashion Awards as Catherine Kallon aka FC was the best at identifying dresses. It’s still hard to believe there is no RCFA anymore. 🙁
