As you know for now I pay a lot of attention what I have, what I’d buy and what I don’t need anymore, so I’m definitely in the ‘less is more’ team as I prefer quality over quantity any time. But my budget is limited, actually way too limited for a love fashion kinda girl. With this in mind, my question is: are designer bags worth the price for us, mere mortals too? Is it worth to save for months or years to have the desired handbag?
Of course the bag word can be replaced with anything you want like shoes, jewelry, accessories or any kind of clothes. But I choose bags because:
- A good bag is one of the most important elements of a good outfit. It can take a jean + tee combo to the next level.
- You can wear a good bag 24/7 every day and nobody will furrow his/her (but mostly her as guys usually don’t give a sh.t :)) brow.
- They’re actually practical (well, not all of them, but most of them :)).
- If you can invest in a classic quality bag it’ll be bag year after year as bag trends are pretty stable and don’t change in every season.
- If you don’t love it anymore you can sell it quite easily. I mean a bag is independent of all measurements and sizes.
A good bag always elevates the outfit.
But despite the fact I love clothes, shoes and bags, I don’t have too much of them. Moreover, I don’t want to overwrite this. At all. I don’t want to change my bags every day, because I’m much lazier than that and if I love one I wanna use that all the time.
Probably she’s a typical bag and shoes person.
So I don’t really buy bags but as I wrote about it here, I couldn’t do that even if I would. Mostly because of the above written listing, sometimes I play with thoughts, that I should buy designer bags but with the condition that I don’t buy more than one. Per year!
The dirty financial side:
If I’d like to buy a designer bag (I’m looking at you Loewe Puzzle), what means more than 1300 quid a year or 110 per month. For a year! I mean I’m not sure it’d be worth it (for me) as out monthly income doesn’t allow it. I could do it but it’d be annoyingly long lasting and very-very painful. So would it be worth if I could by practical, good quality bags for a tenth of the price?
The Loewe Puzzle Bag, the most interesting and unique bag for years.
There is a concrete example: my bags via &Other Stories which I’ve been wearing every time since I bought them. They have all of my conditions and more. They are good quality, big enough but not too big, have a shorter handle and a longer strap, have inner and external pockets, the content is easily reachable and there are protectors on the bottom. Plus they are extra cool looking, actually pretty similar to the original and cost exactly the tenth of the original’s price (what’s not cheap at all).

We say you should stretch as long as long your sheet is. Simply put: you should never ever overspend (we don’t like credit cards either) :). With this said I’d say that I could buy that designer bag if I’m strong enough to save the money in advance (or if I can make/earn much more money). Until then I should stick with high fashion brands.
I’d be curious if I could save the money whether I splurge it on that one item. 🙂 Maybe I’m gonna try it some day, just
for the fun(?) because of curiosity. 🙂
So do you have designer bags? Would you save for them or that’s out of the question?
